Also knapp 400 Figuren pro Holzkiste.
„AAAlllllllttter! Der hat überall Figuren. Ja sogar bemalte in Schubladen!!!“
„In Schubladen?

Einfach mal so.
Mal schauen, was am Ende dabei herauskommt.
Dann muss ich erneut überlegen, was in Zukunft passieren soll.
Last year I was able to report a record here on my BLOG.
With over 600 painted figures, as well as over 25 vehicles built and also painted, the year 2022 was an extremely successful hobby year.
At least when it comes to painting, NOT playing.
However, I had already felt in January 2022 that I had reached a limit somewhere.
Too much time had gone into the hobby.
A major project kept me occupied for several months.
The aim was to paint figures for a setting in the 30 Years' War.
But somehow, as time went on, it became a compulsory exercise for me.
Painting evenings were no longer fun and relaxation, but rather service and duty.
An unhealthy change.
That's why I announced in January 2023 that things would be different this year.
Painting less, maybe niche products, but definitely no more power painting.
This was actually the case in the first half of the year, and basically even in the summer.
I painted maybe 50 figures during this time because I just didn't feel like it.
The maintenance of my BLOG also suffered as a result.
I had fewer stories available because I painted and played less.
Frustration? Oversaturation?
More the latter.
Starting in 2020 with Corona and its restrictions, I used the time very intensively to paint.
Why not.
Most leisure activities were also prohibited or restricted.
It's a good thing if you have a hobby like ours.
However, the consequence of this was that I finished some projects that I had planned a long time.
Quite a surprising experience.
In addition, my organization system reflected to me, “Dude, it’s getting to be enough.”
I have had the following wooden boxes from Ikea in my hobby room for years.
Each drawer holds around 120 (on 25 mm bases) to 140 figures (on 20 mm bases) (Maximum).
So almost 400 figures per wooden box.
When the minis stand in the box!!!
If you lay them down, a few more can fit in there. Because then I put them on top of each other in up to three layers!!!
For years I organized the figures to be painted in these wooden boxes. Epoch after epoch.
In recent years that has changed.
The unpainted figures became painted figures.
So last year I had to resort to putting painted minis in these boxes here.
Some of them fit in there, because the painted ones are stored here until they are finished.
You can lay them tighter.
Of course I also have two figure cases, and of course I also have a small display case, and another one that I have now retrofitted.
You understand what I mean??????
If not yet, a little anecdote to clarify.
In the 90s, my friend Jens Najewitz visited a fellow collector who had a legendary reputation at the time.
Returning, I asked Him, “So? How was it?"
“He has miniatures everywhere. Yes, even painted ones in drawers!!!”
“In drawers? Painted ones????” I asked, horrified. “You can’t just put them in a dark drawer!!! You put something like that in a display case!”
Answer: “It doesn’t work. There’s no space in his rooms There are bookshelves everywhere!!!”
What should I say.
I'M THE GUY WITH THE DRAWERS AND SHELVES NOW!!!!
I think that this “space problem”, or the fact that painted figures simply disappear into obscurity, has increased my displeasure in 2023.
Should you paint for the dark drawer?
Isn't this a collector's craze, maybe even Messi's behavior??
Does that still make sense???
I have a bit of doubt about that.
In the last quarter I painted 50 figures, which brings my annual output to 127 figures.
That’s all.
Of course they then went into the drawer. Just saying it again.
But the actual project in this hobby year 2023 was our Tactica preparation, the “Secret project”, which I have already posted here in parts and of which there will be a final picture at the end of the week.
But not a complete view yet.
That won't be available until Tactica 2024. There has to be a bit of excitement then.
As satisfied as I am now with the finalization of the project, I have to say that this other major project has hindered rather than helped me in my hobby.
In any case, I won't be starting any major projects for the next few years.
Something like this doesn't fit my definition of a hobby in any way.
I have already discovered that for myself.
For two weeks now I've been painting miniatures again, which don't make any sense because they're also for the drawer, but at least I'm having fun again.
Currently that's 1/72 Cowboys.
Just like that.
And this January I'm painting something different again, just like that.
And then something else, just like that.
Let's see what comes out of it in the end.
Either nothing or in the end the last 5 wooden drawers are filled with minis.
Then I have to think again about what should happen in the future.
We will see.
I wish all my readers a Happy New Year 2024.
